Recasting the concept of "Irony"

Hardly a day passed since reading that piece at Gates of Vienna, when I get this in my face while drinking my morning coffee.

Gee, this looks reaaalllly familiar, doesn't it?

I think that some diplomacy from 50,000 feet is in order, and continue with it, 'round the clock until al-Assad and his asshats make a capitulation call to Dubya.

End of story.

IMO recent events seem to indicate that these are a people completely devoid and without the slightest inkling of the concept of "irony," from which I conclude that Irony was a socio-cultural development springing from the European Enlightenment - a tradition and experience that Islam has studiously avoided and ignored.
