Mental midget

I had to stop when I read the following bit;
"Jeffrey Goldberg, a national correspondent for The Atlantic magazine, asked if Cuba's economic system was still worth exporting to other countries,"
Please tell me that there aren't people walking around, thinking of communism in such terms.

Lie to me if you have to.

Surprisingly, Fidel beats everyone to the punch, essentially, denouncing his life's work;
"The Cuban model doesn't even work for us anymore,"
after 50 years of ration books, no property rights, no political rights, zero wealth creation and his people largely living in (at least it's FREE!) squalor with oppression by the political class, ad nauseam, I think he's finally come to an understanding of the wayward, authoritarian bullshit that is communism.

I think it's also telling that Raul, now largely considered the ruling head of the country, has supposedly told the citizens that they should, "expect less from the government."

If I were them, I'd consider that to be a serious improvement.

It would seem to me that as Cuba is beginning to see the light, we have a committed class of quisling traitors, willing to "import" all of that communism they can possibly get their fucking hands on.

Fucking amazing.

Probably, you murderous bastard, because you lost your client-state status when your patron went all tits-up and everything lo these twenty years ago. It only worked as badly as it did because the Soviet Union was committed to sticking it in Uncle Sam's eye by propping up a shithole little-brother state 90 miles off the American coast.

And really, can anyone seriously assert that Jeffrey Goldberg has a functioning brain?

Mark's right, ask the Hungarians and the Africans and anyone else who's a former satellite of The Soviets or the Chinese. It only ever works to prop-up a Potemkin village-idiot proxy, or sock-puppet some cheesy astroturf.

It's all put up as some sort of ideal when the money to fund the bullshit is coming from another party.

As Mark mentioned, it's Hell when Uncle Sugar can't hand over suitcases full of cash, monthly, and oil, and caviar and vodka and, of course, guns to keep the proles in line.

We know where this has all been and we know where it always leads back to.

We're living in Santayana's nightmare, I'm afraid.
