Automotive vignette No.6

1961 (I think) Chrysler New Yorker, Freiburg, BW
Interesting to see an old land barge with a half-ton iron V-8 cruising around in the summer in southern Germany.

And it has fins! What a rebuttal to the East Germans and their poor steroid-warped monkey athletes.

What's weird is this; the East German shitbox extraordinaire, the Trabant, has a cult following in the unified Krauterland.

Unbelievable.

I think it's because they embrace an *idea* of cost and efficiency, over a demonstration of "excess" - in their minds. The giant V-8 barge just seem "too much" - but they have no experience crossing Kansas-Nebraska-Colorado in a day, or why we built things like that, it's outside the comprehensible realm.
