Please, do try to pay attention

NOTE;
"One of the many problems that comes with those who believe that government programs are the way to organize a society is that their deeper belief is that problems can be solved by fiat, that by commanding the circumstances that they believe will lead to the desired outcome to be brought forth will in fact create the desired outcome.This is a command economy, and it never works."
and this is why it doesn't work;
"Allegedly friendly governments offer their business patrons a killing embrace – do this or that, and we’ll give you more money or land or trade protection than you could possibly ask. The subsidies are so generous, responsible corporate managers will do pretty much anything to get them. Over time, the corporations acquire more and more skill at pleasing the relevant government officials – and lose the ability to please their customers."
Do you understand, boys and girls? And people from all over the world need look no further than the UK's great experiment in doing socialized healthcare, via NHS, to understand what a gigantic burden the whole mess is on absolutely everyone. It's still expensive, the government has a bureaucracy to run, the wages aren't worth the effort, the care is rationed, and patients are waiting to be seen.

Stay away. God-damnit, stay the fuck away.

IMO that's the problem-trap my parents fall into, the belief that problems can be solved by Government intervention, and that using the fiat-power is somehow not coercive and totalitarian if it's for the "right" purpose.

Yup. Leaves open that concept of what "right" is, dunnit?

I'll never accept this type of "thinking" as it's far too easily abused.
