The Obama administration wants to spend money, forget how much or how that number is rationalized or amortized over time, to "make a job," supposedly. Never mind that this can NOT be done, as government doesn't actually produce anything.

Belated announcement

At Chris's request, I'm breaking with my longstanding position of anonymity with regards to posting any sort of pictures of me or my family by first showing this;



and now stating that the Krauter and I have welcomed our first offspring into this world on January 6th, at 3pm.

He was in a standing breech position (and had been for the whole pregnancy), so we had to do the "drug her up and drag him out" routine with a cesarean delivery, but he seems no worse for wear, nor does mom. He is of average size and weight, but is eating and sleeping pretty well, and gaining weight quite nicely.

We couldn't be happier.

That is all.

Poor timing

Saw this bit at James Wesley, Rawles's excellent preparedness site a couple of days ago, specifically about the Steyr comment in Inauguration Factor. I agree with the general tone of what's being said there, the timing for reintroduction of Steyr's excellent AUG rifle couldn't be poorer.

I had seen the exact same thing about two months ago, and even pointed out how incredibly stupid the projected dates were, considering the apparent change in executive "leadership" in this country, and that since civvy sales are a pretty substantial market (the Gold Mine, actually), they were stepping on their own collective dick by just now getting with the program.

Still, I'd love to get my hands on one of those.

Christina's World painter passes

Via Les, I read that the painter of one of my favorites has passed.

One of the few paintings that has the complete power to transcend ordinary technique and the starkness of the subject with raw emotion through careful palette selection, scale and pose. Really something.

It also appears to me like that fucker, Mehserle, absolutely realizes what he did, and understands how seriously cooked his goose is over this, being arrested out of state and all, now, awaiting extradition.

This really makes me think about something Jeff Cooper wrote about several years ago in his Cooper's Commentaries, regarding a similar circumstance. He posited that cops don't really need to carry guns. I'm inclined to agree with him.

Mark my words on this; someone, at some point in the not too distant future, is going to be put upon by another one of these authoritarian pricks, and eventually, it's going to be someone who is not about to "go out like that", and knows how to fight back, and probably with lethal consequences to the offending cop.

I can only hope I'm on the jury that acquits him.
