The state of affairs in my world

 "Hedonistic Sustainability."

Some people are now openly talking about how they "pleasure," themselves with how "Green," they think they are.

Really, I'm ready to walk away from it all and just build myself a cabin in the mountains so I can get some peace, however, I'm sure I'd have to "pleasure," some building official by submitting plans for the structure (this is me, laughing) and having them sign off on them, promising them that my construction is R401 Compliant.

My contempt knows no bounds.

Monumental loss

The most perfect example of the development of the High Gothic, as originally proposed by Abbot Suger, The cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris has had its roof consumed by fire.

Almost nine centuries it has stood for all to learn from and appreciate.

I can only hope the masonry structure can be salvaged and the roof rebuilt.

The sanctimonious finger wagging must be causing tone deafness

From my "Betters," at the official AIA publication this month:

I'd say something to the editorial staff about it, but they don't appear to care for direct feedback.

As Forrest Gump would say, Stupid is as stupid does.

People often ask me why I hate this profession; well, here you go!

The Belgians have strange tastes

I've noticed this for years (decades?), that the Belgians seem to like their new, chic houses to resemble a 70's office building.

Seriously, I haven't a clue why anyone thinks this looks good?

Lawsuits, fashion, despair and architecture

There's surely more to describe the situation, but those words do immediately come to mind when reading this article from archdaily, at least for me.

Getting caught up with the "coolest kid on the block," attitude often leads to this sort of thing in my profession, especially so with high profile clientele.

It sometimes even makes me laugh.

Hands all over the western culture

The resistance grows.

Good.

Time to pick sides, boys and girls.

One sad panda

Zaha Hadid, whose seminal design for the Vitra fire station in Weil-am-Rhein, thrust her into an emerging category of the "starchitect," within the profession, passed away today in Miami.

REVIT sucks!

The sooner this abortion of BIM software can die a horrible, screaming death, and replaced with something else, the better.

It could hardly BE any worse.

That is all.

Losing my religion

One of my favorite little buildings in KC is no more.

The Orion Pictures Building, demolished for another fucking parking garage.

It was a modest little deco piece, built for a functional, and not purely aesthetic, concern, but had a nice scale to the street and some interesting brick detailing, nonetheless.

Gone.

Yes, I'd like to slap someone right now.

Stupidity to the Nth

Not the story, per se, but the comments section.

People repeat something they hear that fits their narrative, and accept it as fact.

Can we please get the great purge under way, and soon?

Too stupid to stay away

That's me.

Still digging out from the fog of jet lag.

Move along.

Nothing to see here...yet.

If I'm feeling generous, I may share some visuals, but later.

It is out there

Proof of concept.

I need to just get my shit together on this and do it, consequences be damned.
